The Master’s Lineage: Generations of Fire and the "Glaze King" Tradition

The Master’s Lineage: Generations of Fire and the "Glaze King" Tradition

In the world of Shiwan Dragon Kiln ceramics, a masterpiece is never created in a vacuum. It is the result of centuries of accumulated wisdom, passed down from master to disciple, father to son. At Caiming Kiln (彩明窑), our story is one of profound heritage—a lineage that traces back to the legendary "Glaze King."

1. The Legacy of the "Glaze King" Wu Zaosheng

To understand Caiming Kiln, one must first know Wu Zaosheng (吴灶生) (1902-1981). Renowned as the "Glaze King" of Shiwan, Master Wu was a titan of 20th-century Chinese ceramics. He was a master of the "Three Essentials": Mud, Glaze, and Fire.

His most significant contribution? The perfection and mass production of Red Jun-Glaze (红钧釉) and Crystalline Glaze, which won gold medals and international acclaim in the 1970s. Today, his spirit lives on through his direct disciple—our founder.

2. Master Liang Peixing: The Keeper of the Flame

In 1976, Liang Peixing was officially apprenticed to Master Wu Zaosheng. Under the "Glaze King’s" guidance, he mastered the complex chemical ratios and the temperamental nature of the Dragon Kiln.

For decades, Master Liang has dedicated his life to reviving lost techniques. When the production of Shiwan’s iconic "Zinc-Silicate" Crystalline Glaze ceased in the 1990s due to its extreme difficulty, it was Master Liang who spent years researching and testing to bring it back. His works, such as the Red Jun-Glaze Celestial Vase, are now permanent collections in the Guangdong Ceramics Museum and the China Arts and Crafts Master Museum.

3. The Next Generation: Liang Yuzhang and Modern Non-Heritage

The fire of the Dragon Kiln is now being tended by the next generation—Liang Yuzhang. As an award-winning artist in his own right, Yuzhang bridges the gap between ancient technique and contemporary Western aesthetics.

  • Award-Winning Innovation: His work, Elephant Ear Vase with Transformative Glaze, recently won the Gold Medal at the 2022 Foshan Arts and Crafts Exhibition.

  • A Modern Vision: While Master Liang Peixing focuses on the classical weight of history, Yuzhang experiments with larger formats (like the record-breaking 82cm large plates) and vibrant color palettes that resonate with modern interior design in London, Milan, and Los Angeles.
