About Kilnstill:
1. What is the Dragon Kiln Wood-Firing Technique?
The Dragon Kiln is a 4,000-year-old Chinese tradition involving a long, sloped tunnel that mimics a reclining dragon. It uses direct wood-firing to bake pottery, a method recognized as a world intangible cultural heritage since the Shang Dynasty.
2. Who is the Craftsman?
Our pieces are handcrafted by Master Liang Yuzhang, a second-generation expert whose family has guarded the Shiwan Dragon Kiln for decades. His studio’s prestige was cemented globally when they were commissioned to create nearly 10,000 artisanal pieces for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
3. How are the products born?
Each piece undergoes a 72-hour "assault" of pine-wood flames reaching temperatures above 1300°C. This intense process allows natural wood ash to fuse with the clay, creating unique Natural Ash Glazes through the unpredictable "Alchemy of Fire."
4. Why is this work so precious?
Unlike mass-produced industrial items, these handmade pieces are difficult to master and require significantly more time to create. Every single firing results in a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, making them highly valued for both artistic collection and prestigious gifting.
